Rehabilitation

Post injury and post surgical Rehabilitation is an important aspect of Paula's work and she works in conjunction with the client's veterinary surgeon to develop a programme of exercises and, when appropriate, hydrotherapy which aims to facilitate a progressive return to activity.

Many animals require rehabilitation after surgery, acute injury or a chronic musculoskeletal injury. The aim when treating animals is to prevent re-injury and to improve function and mobility. Because of this philosophy, patients are given a specific exercise programme according to age, surgery/injury and lifestyle.

It is important that each animal reaches its full potential. Walking exercise alone may not be specific enough and range of movement has to be regularly assessed and re-education of gait achieved.

When appropriate, muscle strengthening, mobility and confidence may be gained using hydrotherapy.
